What is BAS?
The Business Activity Statement (BAS) is a form submitted to the Australian Taxation Office by all Australian businesses to report their taxation obligations. These include Pay as you Go Withholding (PAYGW), Pay as you Go Instalments (PAYGI), Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT), Wine Equalisation Tax (WET) and Luxury Car Tax (LCT).
What is a BAS Service Provider?

The Tax Agent Services Bill 2008 scheduled to take effect from 1st March 2010 means that anyone providing BAS services for a fee will need to be a registered BAS Service Provider. If your bookkeeper is processing BAS work, then this is something they should be transitioning towards.

At a minimum, your bookkeeper should have qualifications such as Certificate IV Financial Services. Look for someone who is a member of one of the various professional bookkeeping associations in Australia such asThe Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB) or National Institute of Accounting (NIA).

Coastwide Business Solutions takes pride in our staff’s professional development. Our staff are required to hold a minimum Cert IV in Financial Services. Our BAS Agents are registered with the Tax Practioners Board.
